Insider support should grow 'over the next several weeks,' eventually reaching the broader Office 365 userbase later this year. There's no word on when the feature might reach standalone versions of Office.
The change will allow Google events and contacts to sync just like any other Outlook content, with all the same editing options. That also means sync with the Outlook iOS and Android apps.
Gmail users, meanwhile, can now take advantage of Outlook features like the Focused Inbox —which groups messages more likely to be important —and automatic detection of relevant travel and package details.
While Gmail was already supported in Outlook, more advanced features were previously reserved with people with an Exchange, Office 365, or Outlook.com address.
Earlier this month, Microsoft brought Touch Bar support to Office users with a 2016 MacBook Pro.
Last month, we announced that we’re bringing major improvements to how Google Accounts work in Outlook 2016 for Mac—including an improved setup experience and Google Calendar and Contacts support. We’re excited to be delivering on these highly requested features for Mac users—matching Outlook for iOS and Android—by providing Google Accounts with a more powerful way to stay in control of the day ahead. These updates are currently available to our Office Insider Fast community, and we’ve been excited by the response we’ve seen.
However, we still need some additional feedback before making these updates broadly available. Today, we are announcing a worldwide preview of these features that will run until June 30, 2017. During this time, anyone can install the earliest Outlook for Mac Preview build and help us test the new Google Account experience. You will have access to the same experience as our Insider Fast community—without the requirement of being an existing Office 365 customer.

Existing users can get access to the new Google Account features, and all the latest Outlook innovations, simply by joining our Insider Fast community. This preview is for you! To try Outlook for Mac with your Google Account and test drive the new updates, visit our preview website and click the Download button. This will install the latest preview version of Outlook 2016 for Mac, which you can use until June 30, 2017. You will receive the same builds and weekly updates as our Insider Fast community. To open the Navigation pane, press Ctrl+F, or click View Navigation Pane. Browse by headings. If you’ve applied heading styles to the headings in the body of your document, those headings appear in the Navigation pane. The Navigation pane doesn’t display headings. Mar 19, 2020 I don't have a Mac so I can't confirm, but the work around on a PC is to go into Outline view. Set the 'Show level' to '9', so only headings are visible. Then you can drag the headings to new locations, everything under them will be selected and dragged along. This is the same as dragging the headings in the navigation pane.
